We were gonna try to adopt one of theirs but a gal I used to work with who volunteers at the Davenport Humane Society told us about a local dog they were planning on "rescuing" from another volunteer at the DHS (a vet tech no less!). Seems this lady was "addicted to dogs," she would breed them but couldn't part with them. She had 21 mini-daschunds in individual crates in her house. The head of the DHS went to "visit" just to verify the dogs were properly nourished, etc. They were, so there's nothing they can do - but she identified one of the dogs as having potential to be socialized (i.e, a 'normal' life that doesn' include living in a crate 23 1/2 hours a day). And that lucky dog ended up with us. Her name is Garnet, we estimate she is 8-9 yrs old now (we've had her 2 yrs). Here's a shot of her (on the left) with her "brother" Junior (our other mini-wienie). She is still pretty skittish but has made great strides in her 2 years with us! John (John is stationed overseas and we recently became friends when he wrote from camp requesting some Heartsfield music. He's from Coal Valley, IL. and these two fellers are just waitin' for Dad to get home!!! ) |

And talk about small world - I just saw the link to theanimalrescuesite on your website, I've been clicking there from another site for about 3 yrs now! Another great site (and cause) is Hearts United for Animals (www.hua.org), I believe they are located south of Omaha and do a lot of rescues from breeders.
