Howdee, Howdee, Howdee!! Now that it is hot enough to burn a polar bear's butt, the nights have been a glorious gift that should not be taken for granted. What I’m talikng about is that in our day-to-day rush to chase the buck, work around the house, and just stay too damn busy, we do not want to forget how special these warm summer nights are!! Heck, I might even put on a beret, get out a book of poems or one of them big, thick, fine art books, and head off to an outdoor cafe or coffee shop my darn self. Yes, just a sitting there commenting on how much I love what the artist has done with the negative space or how deep the Haiku can be with such conservative use of words. All the while slowly sipping on a Brazilian Ipanema Bourbon coffee, so nutty & soft, with subtle cocoa notes and a pleasingly mild complexity. That’s just what I want, a complex coffee! Maybe I should start growin’ a Salvador Dali stash now--could take a while. Could be as simple as just pulling up the ole lawn chairs, lightin’ up the Tiki lamps, and just kickin’ back drinking some cold beer, spending time with folks we care about. No big plan--just being there basking in the beautiful summer warmth. Funny how now days we have to have “things to do,” even when we are supposed to be just kickin’ back. Grilling, MP3 players in our ears, games, etc., etc. Lord knows we can’t just peacefully sit there just talking, or just being there quietly together feeling the good vibes. Just a gazin’ at the trees, flowers, and taking in their smells, there is some natural beauty almost anywhere that can be found. I am writing this mostly because I am a Type A personality to the max. Multiplied X 100,000 to the point of being considered crazy. I can’t even sit in the John (is john in this case not capitalized?) without something to read or paper to write some work list on. At any moment I will have 50 CDs being burned, 20 copies of lyric sheets printing, be answering e-mails from 10 to 15 e-mail accounts, checking my cell phone/home phone/2nd home phone messages, burning lunch on the stove, brushing the dog, trimming my moustache grey hairs out, all while doing scales on my guitar & watching another dazzling Senate hearing on the causes of cow shit methane pollution on C-SPAN!!!!!! As you can see, this is a problem. So I want to pledge to all my friends that for the next month or two I WILL get back to a mellower self and set aside time to just go outside and do nothing but enjoy the moment--the sweet sweet warm breeze I was talking about. And I want all of you to do the same as much as you can while the summer is here, don’t let it slip away from us. Before ya know it we will be scraping windshields again! So let’s all take the pledge to get in as many warm nights outside that we can, and no matter how you choose to spend it, just enjoy it. Like ole John Lennon said, "turn off your mind, relax, and float downstream." WOW, here’s a couple of ideas for some of that summer fun! Isn’t this a coincidence, gosh darn it?!! Thursday, August 9th, 7:00pm Sunday, August 12th, 4:30pm Hopin’ to see lots of ya there, my friends. You're the best! (Remember, you can always get further info, maps, etc., for these and any of our other gigs at our fine, fine site, www.heartsfield.com. And while you're there, be sure to check out the new posting in Mr. Jordan's Neighborhood!) © Heartsfield 2007. |
