The electric and fretless bass player/vocalist started playing at age 14 and made his first record in 1966 with local heroes, The Coming Generation. Steve played with several rock bands through college at NIU and in the mid-70's joined the New Colony Six as bassist, singer and songwriter. He toured, wrote and recorded on MCA Records with the New Colony Six until they formally disbanded.
Steve then rejoined several of the original members, including John Camelot and John Burns of Wildflower to form Flyer, a country-rock band that performed, recorded and virtually tore up the local scene in Chicago for several years. This included some unforgettable shows with John’s father, mandolin legend Jethro Burns. Coincidentally, Heartsfield was playing many of the same venues at the same time, but Steve and Perry Jordan, now at center stage in Heartsfield, didn’t formally meet until 10 years later. Spanning his career, Steve has performed and recorded almost every kind of music and has been a session bassist for a multitude of projects, including singer/songwriter Lane Eddington’s debut CD. Steve's vocal focus has been strongly influenced by David Crosby, Neil Young, the Eagles and The Byrds. His bass influences include Jaco, Sting, McCartney and Mingus. |
