Perry Jordan: Bio and History

Bio of Perry Jordan
"Planet49 Live Recording is a one man service, I do the live recording, mixing, overdubs, mastering myself. This allows me to pour myself into the material and sound from beginning to end. It is also the reason I only accept a certain amount of dates & bands to record, this allows me to devote the time and care necessary to create a fine product. Since I make my living gigging, recording &  selling my own music, this is a work of love for me. A live the recording process and the rewards of efforts put into creating good music, music that makes folks who hear it, feel they are experiencing a quality recording. I have over the years had many CD's given to me by bands and far too many sound, at best, average. I find it is mostly in the mix stage that things get short changed, don't let this happen to your music, you've worked too hard to accept less."

History
In 1972 Perry Jordan recorded his first album with Heartsfield, a legendary band from the Midwest.
Over the next 11 years the band toured doing an average of 250 shows a year and recording 4 albums on Mercury/Phonogram and Columbia records. The band has and is now playing with the likes of Little Feat, Lynyard Skynyrd, Left Over Salmon, Doobie Brothers, Dickie Betts, Waylon & Willie, Santana, Bottle Rockets, CSNY, Los Lobos to name a few. In 1983 Jordan left the road to write more music and start learning the craft of recording. Starting out on a two track tape machine he soon moved to 4 trks. to 8 to 16 and finally to 24 trks. He has developed his craft over the years working as a recording artist along side many great engineers in studios such as Criteria, Miami Fl., Automat San Fransico Ca., Chicago studios River North, Studio Chicago, Traxx, CRC, Pumpkin, ARS, Universal, Streeterville among others. After several stints of touring & recording with different players and bands constantly writing and recording as he went along, in 2000 he reformed Heartsfield with new players and has since been performing across the Midwest. The new Heartsfield band recorded "Rescue The Dog" the 5th studio album having Jordan writing the songs, handling producing, arranging and mixing the record.

Recently
Over the years Jordan has been busy refining the craft of recording mostly through necessity. As a prolific songwriter, he had a need for a way to get a lot of songs in the can, self-production and engineering was that way. This gave him much exposure to working with a huge variety of musicians and bands not only refining his recording and mixing abilities but developing an understanding of working and getting the most out of the players he recorded. This year Perry finished his first solo project called "Georgia Flyer" finally fulfilling a dream of doing it all on his own studio gear. The release is getting great reviews and sounds as good as nearly any studio project he has done in million dollar studios. He attributes that to the care taken in making the recording process as casual & relaxed as possible, with the time to devote to the mixing stage. "Georgia Flyer" was done using the exact same gear used for the live recordings. Many of the tracks were laid down at locations in different states where the players lived. After hearing so many low budget CD's and seeing bands not only spending a lot of money but taking too long between releases to keep the fan base locked in and keeping the merchandising from returning the income quickly, added income bands need more and more now days, Jordan discovered a way to help out. Quality, high end recording, not just the 2 or 4trks. mostly used but a professional production.
He started doing live recordings of friends bands and bands he enjoyed and has now decided to pursue his love of recording with his Planet49 Live Recording, while still touring, writing constantly, and releasing both solo & Heartsfield projects. His mission is to work not in quantity but in quality. Being a recording artist himself, he understands bands, songs, sounds, perils of gigging and takes great pride in whatever project he works on, both his and others.
